While dinner is prepared there will be drills and activities to get you comfortable with the various aspects that come with multi day rafting. River Section InformationThis class will take place on the upper Main Salmon River, we will begin the trip at the town of North Fork Idaho and continue downstream for three days until we reach our take out at Corn Creek boat launch.
Day 1 is mellow class I-II whitewater with good pools of flatwater and moving current through out the day. We will use this to practice and hone in rowing skills before we reach our class III stretch of rapids. Day 2 is our first big rapid day, after we have breakfast and coffee and break camp we will get on the river around 9 am. Our first rapid of the day will be a class III pine creek where we will take our first opportunity to go over scouting a rapid as well as raft set up and safety through out the run. We will continue to practice rescue skills and boat maneuvering in whitewater for the next 10 miles. Day 3 we will pack up for our final day on the water. This will be the day to showcase your newly learned rigging skills and get the boats ready for a day of big whitewater. Rapids will begin shortly after we push off. The last days rapids will be a step up from the previous days. We will run Cramer Creek rapid as well as Kitchen Creek (aka Hells Kitchen), and proctor creek rapid. Cramer and Kitchen are both sizable class III+ rapids below the confluence of the Middle fork and Main Salmon. This will be a great opportunity to get a feel for big volume rapids as the flow will be double our first two days. |
